5G Network to be launch in Nigeria
Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC has hinted on moves to ensure Nigeria would follow other nations of the world on the recent technology advancement. Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
the 5th generation mobile network (5G) has been announced in some countries, with plans by some other countries to follow suit in the Tech advancement.
Director Public Affairs of the NCC, Dr Henry Nkemadu, said as a body representing the Federal Government, they have the right to ensure the advancement in that area, as provided in the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003, Section 4(q) which task it to prepare and implement plans which promote and ensure the development of the communications industry and the provision of communications services the country.
Various benefits in deploying the 5th generation mobile network was listed by NCC; some of which are:
1 Socio-economic development across the Nation
2 Enhancement of mobile communication services across the Nation, which would be beneficial to various applications that requires strong Network communications. Some of which are: Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, drones, advanced communication systems, 3D printing, mixed reality, simulation/imaging and gamification.
3 The Commission also list promotion of the national’s digital economy as part of the benefits of the 5G network.
On Safety, the Commission made it known that International Commission for Non-ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) has classified radiation from 5G as non-ionising and therefore safe for human beings.
